We have problem with a rusted steel door frame in a rental unit. When I last saw it, a bit over a year ago, there was rust along the top the frame, with a couple of small holes rusted through.

We asked the agent to get somebody to repair it and they asked for a quote from some guys that say they do "Painting & Renovations, and Building Maintenance". Well the quote was over $600, and is actually to repaint the bathroom walls and ceiling. When we asked, "so what are they going to do to the door frame?", the response was, well, not much - clean off the rust, treat with some sort of primer, and then paint. As explained to us by the agent, any holes would remain, "because it is hollow behind and can't be filled".

If major work is required, we are reluctant to get that done while there is a tenant in the place, so is it possible to patch it up in some way?

In another thread ( http://www.renovateforum.com/f84/rep...-frame-112215/ ) somebody says that there are people who can cut some of the frame out and weld in a new section, but I have no idea who would do that sort of work.
