It's usual to keep 'em at the same height purely for aesthetic reasons. They may look a bit odd from the outside, otherwise. But AFAIK there's no law to say you have to... although there are laws about how close they can be to flues'n'outlets. (And vice-versa)

I'd be inclined to simply take a tape-measure, stringline & bit of chalk, and mark the proposed outline. Then step back as far as I could and have a good long look. It does a bloke good to have some fence-leaning time and it doesn't take much tio realise that 20cm isn't that much after all, especially if it makes the chief cook happy.

In a worst case scenario, you can always think about adding an awning later to both raise the "apparent" height of the top of the window and provide a bit of UV protection at the sink for extra browny points.

Depends on the configuration of the room/ window layout, if it is the only window in that wall, or the center one it will probably look allright, or are you talking on the look from inside or outside?
If you are talking about the look from the inside, and if it is a window that will not look a bit out of place dropped down, what about having curtains in the room all starting from the top at the same height so you conceal the fact that one window is lower, and have tiebacks on the lower window, kinda just as decoration?

Thanks everyone...all good ideas...its inside and you really wont see it from the outside as its the service side of the house only about 1.5 width to the fence. Im leaning towards dropping it 200mm.

I'd lower the window and not worry about the top height,
But
If it really worries you get a new larger window made so the top stays the same height and the sill is lower.

Thanks Bob - I will lower the window 200mm...would love to get a new window made but the window is already made so its too late. This is my first (and last reno/extension and its amazing what you learn as you go along and some of the details that arise that you didnt think of.

Surprised that nobody has pointed out it would work out cheaper to lower the window that to get a taller wife.

You could raise the height of the floor, or even better, give the missus a box to stand on, or buy her some platform shoes.

But seriously, if you don't like the look of it, you could add a 300mm tall high light (or even low light) to it to get the extra depth and retain the same architrave height throughout.

A mate of mine has a couple of windows in his lounge room that are higher than the rest and I always reckon it looks odd, but then I notice these things.

I have gone for the window height to be the same as the others so will buy the wife a pair of high heels and binoculars.
