Covering existing timber ceiling .
Hi. My daughter wants me to cover the existing ceiling in her kitchen which is painted VJointed lining boards. She doesn't want to remove the old painted boards just wants me to put new VJointed lining boards over the old boards. Caution tells me to use battens and then fix the boards to the battens, but can I just fix new boards to the old without having battens. Ceiling droop is not an issue, and the old boards are sound.
Any advice ? Thanks Ross
