Can a fireplace that smokes be fixed? I grew up in a house with two fireplaces so I'm no stranger to making them. This one just doesn't draw all the smoke up the chimney, most ends up in the room.

It has an arch shaped front and we want to sell the house in about a year. I've seen copper 'thingos' over arch fireplaces in old houses but have no idea if there is a modern looking equivalent much less if they would solve my particular problem.

If you look up the chimney there is a slope where the mantelpiece area is, then blue sky.
