Hi everyone,
I'm really really hoping someone can help me with this.
I have an alcove in my lounge room which I thought I would fill up with a wall unit so, in all my brilliance I ordered a unit that fit the alcove perfectly - only about 3cms to spare between unit and walls. The guys who delivered it put it in place and, while it fit perfectly, problems arose!
I realised that I have a hump in my timber floor - right front and centre of the unit. This hump is enough to lift both ends of the unit - one side about 1.3cms off the floor and the other side about 2.2cms or thereabouts. Also the unit is leaning backwards towards the back wall. I have a 400mm spirit level and when I position it in a front to back position on the buffet top, I have to lift the back end of the level up by about 1 - 1.5cm for it to be level (does that make sense??)
How the heck do I level this wall unit??? I forgot to add that this unit is almost 2m long, 50cm deep and 2.1m high and made of solid North American Walnut timber. Apparently it weighs about 300kgs but does come apart into 2 pieces.
Any ideas?? I have thought of doing the supposedly easy solution of putting in wedges but since the unit needs to be in place when I do this, its not going to work because I can't get to the sides nor the back of the unit.
This might be a dumb idea but I was thinking to possibly construct a frame for the unit to sit on - a frame that would accommodate the main bump in the floor which I am certain is what is causing all of this. I do not mind if the unit is not completely level but I'm not happy with it being this far away from level. I am a bit worried as to what will happen when I load it up with another 100kgs or so of the usual wall unit contents.
Any ideas anyone??? Please??
