Tree on public housing property has destroyed our driveway
I am looking for some guidance here before we do/say anything. The bloke installing the boundary fence today said that his job has been much harder because of the roots of the massive pine tree in next door's back yard. The roots of this tree have cracked and lifted our driveway close to half a metre. The driveway is reinforced concrete and can not be dug out by hand. Next door is owned by the department of human services. I'm concerned becasue it's their tree that has caused our driveway to lift, and would now like to approach them to pay to have the driveway levelled. It would have to be assumed that this tree has also invaded all the old sewer pipes, and would at some point also crack and lift the concrete floor of the old garage. I would think that some kind of root barrier against future invation would be needed. Not sure fellingthe tree would be the answer, but it serves no purpose except for feeding the parrots. The lady next door never uses her back yard for anything.
To be honest, I'm unsure how to approach them, and what information I will need to make sure they take responsibility. Any thoughts out there?
Many thanks.
