2nd jewellery box attempt...
As the title suggests, this is my second crack at making a jewellery box, Lid is Mackay cedar, sides and bottom are Silky Oak, top inlay is Red Cedar, corner inlay's are Kauri Pine.
I really ran out of time as this is for my daughters birthday and I decided to do the corner inlays about four days ago, also had some trouble, you will notice one of the corners has a small strip (about the thickness of a saw blade) across the inlay, the blade clipped the mostly finished lid as I was clearing the unwanted inlay timber, my patch job stands out a little but hopefully my daughter won't mind.
Pretty happy with it, I would have put another coat of Estapol on but just didn't have enough time as I really wanted to give here a finished "looking" article, I can sneak it back up the shed another day and do another coat, lol.
Cheers.
Russell.

Very nice. How did you do the inlay lettering?

I have a CNC router, so basically two opposite pieces are machined with a V-cutter so they fit together, then glued and the excess of one (the inlay side) is cut away and you are left with an inlay'd finished product.
It actually takes longer to clean up the excess after glueing and get it sanded flush then it takes to do the machining in the first place.
Cheers.
