Box making virgin
Hi Good Peoples,
I am attempting my first box, which will be a tissue box, and given the amount of useless sawdust I have made so far, which is really getting up my nose, it is an apt first project.
I am using an Incra Original Jig and Fence to (try) and make box joints. Only they are not going to well. I thought I was following the destructions contained in the video but I must be doing something wrong.
As you can see from the first picture, things are not lining up the way they should be.
In the second image, you can see the various dimensions. The router cuts themselves are reasonably consistent in terms of size. The problem appears to be the distance between the cuts.
I cant work out why this keeps happening as I did both the A and B cuts carefully. First I centred the bit. Then the timber was clamped to the right angle fixture thing-a-ma-jiggie. The fence is square to the table top, but the gap between the cuts is inconsistent, despite making sure that the jig was lined up to the A and B marks.
Any suggestions please.
Cheers

Hi Ric, it looks like there is an alignment problem there. I'd say that the A and B marks have been a tad off for a couple of the cuts. Make sure you are aligning the marks from the same spot each time. If you move your head too much you may get a different perspective that will cause a misalignment. Not sure if that is causing the problem but I have never heard of the templates being off.
Practice on some scrap and see if you can get the gaps consistent. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks..... Its all of the above.
I spent the last few hours practising and have now got it right five times in a row.
Some was not getting the exact mark (one tiny notch off) some was a clamping problem and some was the head moving slightly. Now fixed and I have two of the four sides complete.Cheers
