    Default Art Deco Style Box

This box is made from some very old Australian Cedar I had kept for many years. The inner internal sides are from Rosewood and the base is Queensland Maple.
I used dominos in the construction and this box has compound curved ends so the result is a very tactile box that is pleasing to handle.

The box was finished using a number of coats of White Shellac to seal the surface and then the final finish (on the outside) is a sprayed Polyurethane. The surface was sanded to 1200 grit and after the final polyurethane coat was polished with EEE and then waxed.
The box was made for one of the grandaughters and her initials are inlaid in the lid on a huon pine background. The box measures approx 270 mm x 180 mm x 95 mm.

And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Ruddy I looked at that first semi assembled photo and thought "whats he's gone and made that so darn thick for" should have known it would turn out exceptional design form as always.

Nice one, Ruddy. I like the organic form - never seem to do them m'self - and the monogram really sets it off.

I haven't seen that style of box/lid before - I like it a lot - and the choice of timbers

    Thumbs up

Ruddy that is one classy unit!!

When I saw Art deco style I was expecting something more decorative.
It is easy to forget that a lot of Art Deco pieces were fairly plain and relied
on the geometry, as you have done, to fit the style.
