Default My first attempt at a box!

At the last woodworkers show I acquired an Incra LS positioner system and wanted to give it a go... The box is made from fiddleback(?) Tassie Blackwood and fiddleback(?) WA myrtle. The bottom is lined with a scap of genuine pool table felt. The finish is a couple of coats of Gilly Stephenson's Clear Restoring and New Timber Polish and a final coat of Gilly Stephenson's Cabinet Makers Wax.

Most of the joints suck but I'd appreciate your thoughts...

    Rob

As a first attempt I would be so happy with that. As I was told once you learn from your mistakes & that you as the box maker are more likely to pick the job to bits because you know what they are

Welcome to the forum and M8!

Lovely looking box, and as this is your first, I look forward to seeing your next ones.

That's a very pleasant box to look at.

    Keep at it my friend.

I don't know about the joints because I can't see them but that timber is beautiful. I think the box looks great.

I think it is a great box Rob. My only suggestion for the next one is to use your great grain wood more sparingly. A nice piece of that lovely grained wood framed in some contrasting less grained timber would look absolutely fantastic.

Looks pretty good from the photos for a first box - well done.

    Why do the joints suck?

How did you make the joints?
