Second Attempt at that Commission
This is a second commission that followed the cancellation of the previous post. The customer wanted something made for his 5 year old grandson but changed his mind on what he wanted and went away to think about it. Months later he came back with a list of requirements: a small box with a lid that lifted on a storage area and a small drawer with a money box between the two. The money box needed a hidden access to allow it to be emptied.
Fortunately he left the actual design up to me because fitting the money box in the middle was a bit trickier than he realised. The basic box is made from Rimu with corner columns and lid made from Swamp Kauri. The lid pivots on a wooden hinge and the edges of the top are handles for a young fella to lift his box. Coins are deposited into the slot under the lid and drop down a channel into the chamber below. Access to empty the money is via a sliding panel above the drawer.

Very nice. Projects like that, that make you think about how you'll do them, are always interesting.
