AWS Box WIP
I'm making the document box in the latest Australian Woodsmith mag, well I'm making two. One with purple heart and one with ebony trims with the base Qld Maple. enjoy.

Interesting compound miter or is that the angle of the pic?
Lovely looking pieces of Maple you are using look forward to the finished Project.
What sort of hinges are you using?
Cheers

I tried to find the piano higes as suggested in the mag but no find in the small size required. I settled for two 38mm x 22mm brass hinges from the big green shed but I'm not happy about it. If I find the piano hinges I need I'll change them. the problem is the mag says available from ..... but when you go there they are not listed or at your local hardware store in the size you need and I don't mean the length.

Well I contacted AWS and they gave me a very nice reply and this link:

It's for Lea Vally in the US and they have the piano hinges in a number of sizes, so problem solved.

Well a bit more progress with the boxes today and I glued in the corner slices of purple heart and ebony. I would have started on the lid also but it seems it takes more than a week for the veneer to come 40 km from the sunshine coast to caboolture. If I'd known it would take this long I'd have driven up and picked them up and it would cost me less than the $10 post they are charging. I don't seem to have much luck this year when it comes to service.

Looking good so far.
I'm hoping to start on one of these boxes soon aswell but still undecided what timber i'll be using. I have some redgum in the shed and some nice jarrah that i may use for the lid insert and splines.
Will be watching with interest.

Todays effort. Starting to get there now and as my saw does not tilt so I'll use the bandsaw I think to cut the sides.

Hi SB
The boxes look great - good to see you have acquired th Incra LS. Regarding the hinges, I paid a visit to the sponsor of this forum (at Maroochydore) and they had a terrific selection of good quality hinges, including piano hinges and stop hinges. Check the website or go visit - not too far from Caboolture.
