Bathroom Tidy bin
I've been promising my better half a replacement for our icecream container rubbish bin for some time so I finally made one from Camphor Laurel last Monday (public holiday)

Using the Jointer to achive a flat side
Attachment 139861
Using the jointer to achieve a right angle to the flat side then I put through my lunch box thicknesser
Attachment 139862
After removing some of the waste I used the hand router to cut the grooves to house the base.
Attachment 139863
Machining the base from MDF on my Table sled
Attachment 139864
One side showing 45deg mitre cut and groove for base and the MBF base with rebate
I do not know why all the photos came out so small maybe someone here on the forum could assist please
Attachment 139865
Mitred box with lid on but the lid has not been finished yet or my turned knob for the lid has yet to be made
Attachment 139866
Just tidying up the lid and removing sharp edges
Attachment 139867
The finished box however it has to be cleaned up and sanded then I will wax it.Last edited by DJ’s Timber; 21st June 2010 at 05:44 PM. Reason: Fix smilies

Simple and effective. Like the fact that you used hand tools.

Its too good for a bathroom rubbish bin. Will you put a plastic liner inside? That lid material looks gorgeous. I'll bet it will look even better with some finish on it.

Yeah it's just a simple box and I was surprised how the mitre joints turned out, you should have seen all the clamps I had on it at glue up. It lokked like an octapus gone wrong, what a challenge
I like using hand tools and I can see myself moving towards the darkside as time goes on. I recently bought a Lee valley BU jack plane and it is such a lovely tool. I am at present looking at a good tenon rip saw (I love the 16inch Lie Nielson) and a carcass saw and a shoulder plane for tenons.

Ruffly
When I gave it to my wife and said here is our new rubbish bin it was promptly confiscated after saying it is too good for that I will use it for my perfumes etc. Amazing!!

As mentioned to Ruffly it didn't make it as a rubbish bin as my wife confiscated it for perfumes etc. The Camphor Laurel has a lovely aroma to it and I used Ubeaut Nuetral paste wax and it came up a treat.
Cheers

Nice to see another box maker in the forum. Looks a very useful and crafted box to me as well.
