Beginner's box
My nephew has been staying with us for a week or so, for a bit of R&R in the big smoke. Between fishing adventures and windsurfing we managed to get a bit of shed time and I instructed him on making a dovetail box that might one day soon hold a laptop (well he hopes so anyway). He handcut the dovetails. Although he leaves early tomorrow, we'll have time to cut the lid from the box, through the larger pin, but Dad will have to help him install the hinges and box lock. Not bad for a boy just finished grade 7! The box sides are rose butternut.
Cheers
Michael

Mic, so good to see this post. I am a great believer in working with the kids in the shed. That box is stunning and I am sure he will always remember the hours he put in making it with you. Great to see.
I have done quite a few projects with my two godsons and some of my grandkids. I think so far there has been four different nest of tables all of which I am sure they will keep for years. The tables have domino joints and they cut them, so that shows how easy it is to use.
In fact I am currently half way through helping my near 14 year old grandaughter to make a box that will be a little different. When it is finished I will post a picture. And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Mic, the kid has a better hand than I do by the looks, those dovetails are very neat. The shame of it! Good on you--good quality time spent there.
