Default A bit of old firewood

Last year I saw what I thought was some promising split firewood in my SIL's wood heap . The grain was not as striking as I hoped but not too bad and was just enough to make this box 300x210x80.

I am undecided as to whether I should put a handle on the top and would appreciate thoughts and ideas about that .

    The miter splines are wenge

    Top job, Peter.
I wouldn't put a handle on the lid - it would probably spoil the look.

Nice looking box mate. I wouldn't put a handle on personally.

Great looking box! Personally, I would leave the handle off because I like the wood grain in the center piece. What first catches my eye though is the neat spline design. Well done!

Peter, that is one hell of a box.
If I ever get that good,I would throw a party. What finish did you use please.?
Seems to be a lot off different joints used in this box.Have you got any WOPshots?

Thanks for the comments guys. I will not put a handle on the lid as I was leaning that way anyway .
What finish did you use please.?
Aussie , the finish was Mirotone PC3220/60 lacquer which was then rubbed with steel wool and our sponsors Traditional Wax . I did not think to take any pics while making this box but must do this in the future because as others have said, it is interesting to follow the making process.

    Cheers

    Hi Pete
Terrific firewood you've got there Pete, clean lines, great finish and those splines add class to the box.
