    Hi Jason,
A beautiful pair of boxes coming on there looking forward to having a go at one of these maybe with some of you're timber that I just received from you. (I should get a few different boxes from it if I'm careful.)
    Regards Rod.

Breathtaking. You've really succeeded in celebrating the grain! What finish have you applied and how?

Thanks. The finish is tru-oil which is quite easy to apply (by hand). It seems to work best on hard woods.

I built the box to house a book called ABC3D. You can see it on YouTube.

It'll make sense when you see what I made for it.

So this has been made for a baby girl - Annabella is only 9 months old, but as we all know too well, she will need to learn her "ABCs" soon enough. Once she knows them, she should have a great foundation for her lifelong learning. This lovely little book should help make it fun.

To explain, 6 weeks ago her dad hosted/ran a conference I attended. I got a huge amount of information and insight from it so I decided to acknowledge his contribution to my life by making this humble offering to him and his daughter.

Phase two of the conference is tomorrow so I will give it to him at the end - hope he likes it. Either way it is a gift from the heart, using what skills I have.

I found it quite challenging as I haven't carved before and because there are few right angles (all angles referenced the "A" inspired by the book and her name) - the project took quite a few hours, including design, hunting down the leather, making, refining and finishing.

BTW the leather used in the project came from a bag, bought at St. Vinnies for $8. The strap, main body and magnetic catch were used.
