My first box
I bought this kit from the Working With Wood Show in Canberra last year and thought I should put it together. The sides are Blackwood with a Blackheart Sassafras lid and Wenge handle. The mitre keys are wenge and maple. Finished with Minwax Wipe on Poly.
Some of the mitres aren't perfect but I'm still pretty happy with it.

I really like it, well done! Was the handle part of the kit? Andy

Thanks Andy, the wenge was something I had lying around and the maple was from a pen blank I had as well. The kit was just the blackwood and the sassy.

Nice box. Next time you do one, try it with feathers of the one colour and see which you like better...
Cheers

lovely box
very nice effect with the contrasting timbers, i have nearly finished a similar box, with the raised panel lid, a mitred edge down to the level of the box walls softens the look. easy with a block plane and shooting board,,nice job again , regards ,rossco

Thanks for all your comments. I'll go with a single colour miter key next time, I only had a small amount of the wenge and the maple so compromised a bit.
Unfortunately, my 5 year old daughter loved it soo much that it's in her room. A few days ago she came up to me in tears as the handle had come off. I was able save it so she is happy once more. Now the other daughter wants one too.
