    Default box making

hi , this is a jewel box that I made for my Granddaughter. The base is turned from Silky oak while the lid is of different timbers that is made like Parquety only it is done on paper so the design is seen on both sides once it is sanded and polished

It is just a clear spray gloss, the inside is lined with soft seude leather, I'm just a novice with the computer, had lots of trouble working out how to upload that picture,
if I can remember how to, I'll post the pic. of the inside .

thanks Kcam, yes I'm quite happy how it turned out, although they are not veneers, and are not inlay,I suppose you'd call it parquetry. They are all solid peices of wood, they start off about1/2 inch thick. the design is on a peice of paper , peices are cut to fit and glued side by side, like parquetry, but when it is finished you sand both sides, and you have the design going right through from top to bottom, CD.

Lovely workmanship there !!. I hope your Grand Daughter is of an age where she can appreciate the many hours spent making this lovely work of art for her. Most of the box's and toys I make my grand kids gets bashed and trashed within a few months. .
