Thank you for the kind words. The timber was purchased. The bubinga was purchased for a king size bed project that I made for the Mrs and I. The black walnut was left over from a seven foot long black walnut desk that I built for myself for my home office. I really dislike wasting perfectly good timber so leftovers from large projects often find themselves becoming boxes and other small projects. Anything to bring a little joy into someone's life. The terraced lid idea was born from sheer laziness. Looking around my shed for a suitable piece for the top I happened upon this piece of walnut. It was too thick at 3/4" (19mm) and it was raining outside which is where I do all my thickness planing. So I cut the terraces to make the top appear to be less thick than it is. That it worked is nothing more than an accident.
