Default here we go again, my latest box

Hi folks, I haven't put a box on here for a little while now. I finished this box the other day. I kind of designed it as I went along. The timber is Brush Box throughout and the lid insert and handle are Blackbutt.

The ring holders in the top tray were a bit of a pain, ended up doing them 3 times before I was happy. Problem was they are a bit higher than the sides of the top tray and I had to wrap over the adhesive suede I use. There is wire running through each ring holder, across and it slots into a lil hole at each side. That's what holds the ring holders in.

Apart from that I am pretty happy with the outcome of this box.

    Hi Paul,
Looks very nice, lovely dovetails (jig or hand cut?), the tray inside a tray idea is something I haven't seen before. Have you got any finish on this? If so what is it?

    Hi David,

And thanks for your kind comments. The tray inside the tray was in my mind when I started this box but I had to see how I went for heights/measurements etc as it developed. Hence is why I was a tad short on my sides for the ring holders.

The finish I use on all my boxes is two coats of Danish Oil that I make myself, second coat is put on with 400 grit w&d paper, so it is cutting back the first coat as its being applied. Then a nice rub off. Another day after that I give it a slight hit with the w&d again then two coats of buffed on wax. I was making my own wax but I don't know if it was worth it or not. The wax from Bunnings is as good as anything I think and pretty cheap also, I think around the $10 mark for a tin.

Oh yes, and I use the Gifkins dovetail jig, love it, so simple.

    Regards, Paul
