Thread: My First Box...

Another one in the same design...
This one is the same design that I've been using... my idea was to do the same type of box over and over until I understand how the tools work and the finishing occurs. Very simple box to do. The lid is myrtle burl and the carcass is jarrah. All the lids are veneered on 6mm MDF. So this is box no. 3! This one didn't finish as well as like... the burl lid isn't as glossy as I liked - perhaps not enough coats of finish. Jarrah cuts wonderfully! It was like butter after doing red gum which is hard, prone to tearing out and downright unstable! But I do like red gum.... there's only one more box in this design - still unfinished - we just moved house so that got in the way.
I need to get a bandsaw to progress ... I need to be able to resaw boards... oh well ... time to save up for that.Shane Magrath
