    Default Two Year Box

After 2 years of seasoning some jacaranda i made this small box.CL was used for the bottom, the front and back was an offcut of timber used for flooring. If anyone can shed some light on what timber this is, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Very nice, Wardy! I like the design. Nice finish too. What did you finish it with? I really like that last photograph of yours. Nice angle, nice lighting - shows the box very well.
If I had to take a shot at the mystery timber, I would go with Brazilian cherry. I've got a pile of wide planks of it and it looks just like that. Here's a long piece I used as a ledge along a stairwell in my home.

Nice work Wardy. I am saving a picture of that for my future inspiration. Beautiful wood.

HI Cisco, the finish i used was homemade.1/3 satin polyurethane, 1/3 boiled linseed oil and 1/3 mineral turps. this finish is very easy to use.The box was then buffed with homemade bees wax that has 3 or 4 additives to it.Has a very nice silky feel to it.

Thanks for all your comments. Alex the strips serve two purposes, 1 for aesthetic appeal and the other for finger support when opening the lid.

The strips on the top make a nice feature and are more effective being tapered .Nic

    PS
That's one of the problems with salvaging timber like you did with your jacaranda. The long wait for it to season
