Default How are these box corners made ?

I have for a long time been fascinated by the design in the picture below, with the box corners made of another contrasting timber. I have recently seen one at one of the wood galleries in Leura NSW while on holidays in the Blue Mountains, and would now like to have a go at it, if it is not too difficult.

Can anyone please advise how the 10 x 10mm, say, corner timbers are attached to the sides? When the lid was opened, there was no evidence of a spline where the lid had been cut away from the box.

    Question

They may well just be Dowelled/pinned and glued.

Or mortise & tenoned, stopped short of the edges. The same could be done with splines.

I made a similar box with M&T's some time back (although it also had top & bottom rails so I could inset the main panels similar to a picture frame) and found that at small sizes (eg. <10x10mm corners) accuracy is fairly critical to maintain a strong joint BUT there's so little timber to work with that - apart from initial sizing - hand tools become far more useful than power tools.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

I have an identical box made by Peter Gorring using Tiger Mrytle top, Celery Top Pine sides, Blackwood stringing and the Silky Oak corners..it's beautiful...

Why don't you try and contact Peter directly?
