Box finished today
Hi all, This is my latest box I finished today. A builder gave me some very old rosewood that was pulled out of a house that he was rennovating. It was the old window frames. This box is 300x200x140. The rest is as you see it. The lid is made from jellutong.
Hope you enjoy,
Paul

You've been turning out some good boxes, Paul, and this is no exception. Nice work.

A nice looking box, I rather like it. The only negative (and it is only my personal opinion) is that the pull knob on the drawer seems a bit large for the size of the drawer. A smaller timber pull made from from some left over Jellutong would have been my preference, otherwise a fine effort.

Thanks Gentlemen, For your kind comments. I actually did think about the pull knob, as in my previous boxes you may have recalled I have used timber pulls/knobs. With this box it is a rather large box and I just wanted something different. This was the smallest brass round knob sold at Bunnings and I didn't look any further.
But thanks for your comments,
Paul

You should have put hidden compartments below the rings.

good suggestion Hermit, I did think about that. Actually the ring holder section goes all the way down to the bottom. So hence you could put say a bangle or a narrow bracelet or such in that compartment also. It is quite deep.

Very nice Paul I'd have to agree with Rumnut about the knob but at least you can change it if you choose - unless it is epoxied on !!!

The rosewood looks great and the build looks fine.I also agree that a smaller drawer knob would have improved the appearance. Well done.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Thanks Gentlemen,
Next week when I am back in Coffs Harbour again I might call in to a specialist cabinet making shop and see if they do have smaller round brass knobs, just for curiosity sake. I might even make another similar box to this one, but this time make the drawer below extending across the full width and hence have to put a full shelf inside it, and just put normal size ring holders in the outer sections, (without them extending all the way down to the bottom), food for thought anyway,..hmmm. I've got a couple more boxes on the go at present, a woman ordered a box solely to fit cuff links in. I am hoping at the completion of this box it might hold about 60 cuff links (30 sets), not sure how many her husband has. I am going to make two of these which would be also suited for rings. As another woman asked me recently did I have a box that would hold her 32 rings. Can't believe how many rings some women own,..!
Regards, Paul
