Box hardware, hinges, etc.
I did a search but couldn’t make any sense of it. Where do folk buy quality box hardware from? Bunnings, etc seem to sell crap. Living in a regional area there isn’t a lot of choice and buying online one just can’t tell the quality.
Cheers Bucky

(Sorry, that managed to get in twice)
You could try eBay. Seller johnnyd0_11 has some reasonably cheap but fair hinges for sale. I have bought from this seller several times.Last edited by homesy135; 9th May 2021 at 07:00 PM. Reason: went in twice

Thanks everyone. I said I wanted quality, was prepared for them to cost me an arm and leg. However, some of them want my left testicle too.

I have purchased some hardware from Graeme Brown with good results. Note that his pricing in the catalogue was out of date for items I ordered, so a phone call is required to confirm (and order). Graeme Brown Antiques (gbrownantiques.com.au)

Just received some hinges from McJing , online purchase , 25mm brass or brass coated, they are very poor quality, so thin they couldnt be countersunk, and no screws included, cheap but useless , i will return them next road trip there , no reflection on Mcjing generally, as very happy with other purchases there. Anton Gerner very good quality, Ross

Hi Bucky,
My go-to suppliers for high quality box hinges are Andrew Crawford (like groeneaj) at £33 per pair ($60 Aus) Premium Box Hinges, Siderail Hinges – Buy smartHinge
or Ian Hawthorne at £23 per pair ($40 Aus). Neat Elite Hinge ~ Box Hinges | Side Rail Hinges | Brass Box Hinges
Both of the above are stopped side rail hinges that require only four passes on the router table and you’re done. Both have rounded knuckles.
Brusso in the US has a range of quality box hardware but the hinges are square knuckled, less easy to fit and still cost $US36 ($A46) per pair (for a similar hinge to those above).
Andrew Crawford’s SmartHinge is still my favourite despite the cost. They really are superb.
Good luck with the search!
Regards,
Brian

It really does depend on what you're looking for in terms of material, style, quality of finish and ease of fitment. For instance the strap style hinges recommended by several members (Crawford and Hawthorne) are available in brass plated zinc alloy or steel or solid brass. The zinc alloy ones can be had for $3 a pair, but they leave a bit to be desired when it comes to quality and finish. The best brass plated steel ones I've used are these - https://www.veneerinlay.com.au/produ...-6mm-x-35mm-2/ - they look good are reasonable quality and at $46 for 5 pair are affordable. Unfortunately there's nothing I've found between $10 per pair and $40 per pair that hits the quality versus value nail on the head.
Are you after a particular style of hinge and what features do you want; solid brass; 90 deg. stop; strap, butt or quadrant, etc. Lee Valley stock some solid brass piano style stop hinges that don't work out too expensive if you order a few at a time - Small Box Stop Hinges - Lee Valley Tools
