Box . . . like . . . ish!!!!
OK so it's not a box in the general sense of the term but it is 'a space surrounded by wood' so I'm posting it anyway! Our club challenge this year was to make whatever out of a piece of Klinki Pine 200x100x700mm long - sounds simple enough until you work with Klinki - only one or two shades away from Balsa wood
Inspiration for this came from an antique red cedar mirror stand my BIL copied in Tassie Myrtle and an el-cheapo jewellery stand Mum had in the nursing home. Had planned on doing it in 'real wood' one day but this seemed like a good opportunity for a 'mock-up'.
Three new challenges in this one for me - had never tried bent laminations before (drawer front), never tackled an inlay before and hadn't even heard of 'flame polishing' perspex (earring racks). The keys and inlay etc are all Australian Ebony for a bit of local content. Even made the thumbscrews myself from some threaded rod, brass tube and a bit of Ebony.
Pretty pleased with the result and the judge liked it enough to take out the challenge comp' plus Best of Show - pretty stoked with that
Comments and critque welcome!

What a treasure that will be enjoyed for generations! Beautiful piece of furniture. You should draw up plans and sell them.

That is a lovely piece of fine craftmanship. Very novel design, and I am sure the recipient will treasure it for ever.
I can appreciate the amount of time that went into the planning and making of this.
Congratulations on a job well done.

That really is brilliant.
Would you have an estimate of time to build?

Wow Vern, take a bow.
The timber might be a bit plain, but the overall effect makes a loud statement. Its no wonder you took out the competition .Brad.

As always, another demonstration of your skills. So much to like with this one,the design, the curved front and the contrasting inlays.

Thanks for all the head-enlarging comments guys - very much appreciated
Very hard to say An hour here and an hour there over four months but most of the time was spent resolving issues with the design along the way. I had to shrink the design from the original plan to get it all out of the allotted billet - just working out the cutting plan took long enough!!!

All out of 200 x 100 x 700? Just show me how you did that again! Ahh, that's how you did it - NO MISTAKES. Probably won't be happening here. Fabulous result!!!

Congratulations on your win and I liked your jewellery box as well.
Have not done much posting at forum this year owing to respiratory trouble (not lethal) but enough to keep me out of the workshop, but when I get back in there I will attempt something similar. I am in the process (the previous 12 months) making boxes for the ladies in our family.woody U.K.
