Cleaning up is not my favourite activity so I took the "opportunity" to be distracted. The storage places are full so the bits and pieces became a small trinket box. The body of the box is northern hemisphere poplar, that came from Melbourne. The bandings were left over from another box and the lid handle was a "scrap" of black bean. the box is about 200mm x 150 and is about 45mm deep. The legs are were made from a piece of maple that was 19mm square and about 200mm long. The box was finished with some sanding sealer and given a sprayed coat of lacquer.
The top was into narrow pieces and glued to minimise the movement in the lid, and pieces of walnut veneer from the scrap bin created the black stripes.

Not too bad for some stuff that was on the floor and headed for the firebox.

Fantastic looking box there. How do you make the bandings?
