Does anyone make-Box From single piece of wood
I was just considering making a box from a large block of mulberry ie carving it out of the one block. Will it crack has anyone tried?

Can also be done with a router, templates and template guides .
Tom O Donnell (Template Tom ) is the expert on this subject.
He uses templates and guides to make trinket boxes of any shape from a solid piece of wood .If you made a template large enough you could make any size box .The only restriction would be the depth that the router will plunge to.
The Router forum or Router jig forum is the best place to search for info.

Turned boxes are almost always made from a single piece of timber. In particular, the entire nested Russian "Babushka" or "Matryoshka" doll sets are best made from the same piece of timber, for compatible shrinkage and/or warping. Look in Woodturning - General, and Woodturning - Ornamental for some examples, or further enquiry.
