mitre joints with mitre saws was covered recently in general woodworking(i Think) the jig in the photo is as described there and in magazines. It works great, the beauty of fences on both sides is that as long as its exact 90degrees, and matching mitres are cut on opposite sides , good results for sure. you can also clamp a block to the fence for as a guage.iphone5 014.jpg

    Hi again,

I haven't made any jigs, but the saws I use re both high end. Makita LS1214 and Festool Kapex 120. I use bevel rather than left/right mitre and after cutting the first, I use that as the template for the others.
I dry fit the box sides together and look for discrepancies. If I find any, I will check the length of each side against the corresponding other side and confirm that they are indeed the same length. If they are different, I will resaw the bevel to make them the same.(Sometimes, particularly with a blunt blade, you can get movement of the blade during a cut.)
I use a 60 tooth blade. I have found that blades with high tooth counts (say, 100) tend to move more during cutting.
I make all cuts using the one side of the saw.

    Regards,

    Rob

    What he said ^

I use a simple Rigid compound miter saw. It helps to cut from one side only for consistency. If your saw is accurate and can bevel then theres no need for a jig of any kind.

How are u guys fastening mitered boxes?
