Yes, in some ways small boxes can be harder to make than larger ones but yours have turned out great!

What tool did you use to take out the inside corners of the corner posts and did you do it before or after assembly?

Before assembly, Bob, on the router table using a downcut spiral bit. And, yes, I feel that I could have made a box four times the size with little extra time or effort.

Very nice Aldav, a lot of work in those boxes for sure. The ring holders look great also.

Very nice design and well executed. Yes we all seem to want to do something as a challenge and when complete say, never again. At least we have proven we can do it once

Lovely boxes and the amount of work put into them is evident in the final products.

Two questions regarding the Spotted Gum. Was there a particular reason you chose this notoriously difficult timber (availability, appearance, challenge, what's-so-hard-about-Spotted Gum)? Related to the first how did avoid or manage the tear-out with this timber? (I get tear out before a freshly sharpened and lightly set plane iron has even laid sight on the wood.)

Thanks Anthony. I can't say that Spotted Gum is that difficult to work with, well if most of the work is done with power tools it isn't. The stock was prepped to thickness using a DeWalt 735 thicknesser with a spiral head, so no real problems there. The stock in the sides is 8mm thick. I have a small stock of SG from offcuts of new floorboards, which i why it was 'chosen'. The main thing to remember with it is to wipe down with Acetone just prior to glue-up or the joint will fail. Ask me how I know this.
