"old" boxes come to life
About 18 months ago, I started building 12 jewellery/trinket boxes. As with a lot of people, life gets in the way. Steadily over the past month or so I have got around to finishing them off. This is the first one.

It measures 265 x 180mm and is 50mm deep. It was made from 'penny leaf' from the Mackay area in Queensland. The top is veneered with walnut burl veneer trimmed with shop made red cedar and yellow walnut banding. The central motif is made from black bean with silver ash veneer lines. The inside has a red felt bottom with silver ash lining the inside. Polished with sanding sealer and four thin sprayed coats of lacquer.

Jim,
That's really very impressive work.
I'm really taken by the plinth.
You don't see that enough on boxes.
Choice of timbers and veneer spot on
I love it.[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

Well done PP, that is an amazing piece of craftmanship. Particularly like the banding and the inlaid centrepiece

Beautiful work on the inlay banding and motif, PP, - it looks sensational against the walnut burl. Inside, too. Very classy!
What sort of lacquer did you use?

Absolutely beautiful PP! Great design, choice of timbers and workmanship. You must have agonised for hours to balance the positioning of the banding so well.

As usual top work from a master Jim.
Thanks for sharing and giving us a target to aspire to.
Cheers, Ian"The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot.. it can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run.
And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better"
