Boxes for medals
After ANZAC Day a few mates I work with asked me to make some boxes for their medals. Until now they've been keeping them in Tupperware containers or plastic bags!
This way they get to keep everything organised and they're able to display them as well. All three boxes are made from Jarrah. Two have home made wooden hinges and all are finished with two coats of Minwax Wipe On Poly.
I used blue flocking for the insides and although I haven't come close to perfecting the technique it seems to work better than felt and glue.To be old and wise you must first be young and stupid!

Very nice indeed. I can't tell from the picture but did you inlay the badges/s into the lid or are they on top of the timber. I would think that your mate are very happy with the great job you have done.

Extremely nice! How about some closeups of those wooden hinges?
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Thanks for the comments. The badges are simply glued onto the top of the lid but I'm thinking of inlaying them and filling with two part epoxy for the next ones..
Here are some close ups of the hinges. To be old and wise you must first be young and stupid!

Fantastic work and idea. I can see the other military and ex-military guys think so too. You could sell these to serving military guys easily, they would make great christmas gifts. Advertise them in the Service newspapers. PM me if you want a contact.

Very nice indeed, nice presentation and great workmanship.
However, I will modify Groggy's comment about storage for serving personel.
For serving Military the Zip Loc bags and Tupperware are the best thing to store them in. They are non-reactive to the metals and help prevent tarnish, only non-pvc plastics should be used. (Micro-wave safe is easiest test.)
Timbers, fabrics, PVC plastics and glues all release reactive gases and compounds that damage the surface of medals, "D's" and metal badges with every serving and past member of the services knowing how much fun it is keeping all your brassware untarnished and free of pits.
The most simple and obvious solution is to use these fantastic cases, but put all your stuff into Zip-loc bags as well..
