Boxes at the Perth Wood Show
Hi All,
I have been helping Andrew Crawford get ready for the Perth Wood Show which is this weekend and I recommend that if there is any possible way that you can get there you do because you have got to see his work. Amazing............ The feature box category in the Fine Wood Work Association of Western Australia's Out of the Woods competition has attracted 19 entries and having seen some of these projects develop over the last months competion will be strong for the $1000 first prize. Also the FWWA is pulling together a boxmaking retrospective which will be on display and will include at least 40 pieces so if you have any interest in wooden boxes The Claremont Showgrounds is the place to be this Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Checkout the programme at 2010 WA Woodshow Friday 6th - Sunday 8th August, Perth, Western Australia. Andrew will be there all weekend but will be giving three presentations each day about aspects of his work. I will be demonstating fitting brusso hinges at noon on Friday and Saturday and at 11 on Sunday. Come up the stairs , around the corner and say gooday. If I get time over the weekend I will try and take a bunch of pictures which you should be able to access through the FWWA website. I'll let you know the details later.

Thanks for the information Mineritchi, wish I could get there from SA. Please give us as many pictures as you possibly can. And, include pics of any jigs you have invented for quadrant hinges.

Thank you for the "Heads up".
I am a novice, a new chum to woodworking, I found the workshop inspirational.
I am looking forward to his new book. It suprised me when he said "I have learned so much since I wrote the first book!"

Hi All,
What a great show it was! Andrew captivated and inspired the audience at the 9 workshops over the weekend and at the 3 workshops since which finally finished yesterday so that is the reason I haven't got around to loading my photos into the Fine Woodwork Association of Western Australia website Fine Wood Work Association (WA) Inc. but I will get to it soon. There is also membership details and the club calander there for those interested and all are welcome. The 2 box exhibitions attracted a large audience all weekend but what surprised me was the amazing variety.
My brusso hinge demo's went well with lots of good feedback and great suggestions from the floor. I was demonstrating the fitting of the stopped butt hinges which I do with a freehand router and an improved fence so no jig to share unfortunately.
Andrew was very excited to meet a guy who is considering manufacturing what Andrew considers to be the best box hinge in the world. Can't say too much but check Andrew Crawford's web site fine-boxes.com for details in a few weeks when he gets back home. If you wandered past Andrew's display at the Perth Wood Show on the Sunday morning and wondered what the bunch of speachless and slack jawed boxmakers where looking at it was this lovely bit of brass. Anyone who saw Andrew will have heard or even tried his veritas corner chisel guide jig. Those that didn't but are curious see his website in a few weeks. Fingers crossed, hopefully going into production soon.
see ya

Some photos from the show
Hi All,
sorry for the delay but some photos of the Perth Wood Show Fine Wood Work Association Box competition and retrospective exhibition can be found at Fine Wood Work Association (WA) Inc. - Wood show. Room on the web page was limited so unfortunately isn't an image of every box but this should give you a taste.
