Default Boxes in the style of Art Deco

Has anyone come across a good collection of boxes in the art deco style? Is there anything that defines art deco?
    regards,

I think it's difficult to define in a way that immediately allows you to recognize an art deco piece. Technically I believe it refers to things designed from 1925 ish to about 1940 that were in a style derived from the modern industrial look of the time. Some references claim that the term was not applied until about 1960 but others disagree.

To get a feel for it do a google search on the meanings of "art deco" and "art nouveau" so you have some idea of the difference. Then search for images of "art deco boxes" and after looking through those use "furniture" instead of "boxes" in the search. Then use buildings, cars, lights, motifs, and any other class of things that you think may work. There will be a number of totally inapplicable images as with most google searches, and probably a fair number of art nouveau images, but after looking at many of them you will start to get a feel for what is and what isn't art deco.

This page might be a good place to start.

Thanks for this advice Bob and double.d
So far, the nearest thing to the true Art Deco style I have found are some of the boxes by Andrew Crawford on his website (Slideshow) with the use of bold colours and lots of lines and stringing and geometric shapes

I have surf the Internet and made a collection of pictures of boxes and wood styles which I think may be Art Deco style. Many of them are from Andrew Crawfords website. You can see them all here : Art Deco style items - Google Photos

    Hi Joe,

Nice collection. If you’re looking for Art Deco style have a look at Ian Hawthorne’s stuff

PAST COMMISSIONS - Handmade Watch Box | Bespoke Wooden Box | Bespoke Jewellery Box

Ian is a fan of Art Deco - see also his AD trinket boxes: Trinket - Fire Box - SOLD - Handmade Watch Box | Bespoke Wooden Box | Bespoke Jewellery Box

if you can be bothered trawling back through Ian’s Facebook page there are many more examples over the past few years.

Linley’s box range is always worth a look - many are AD inspired:
LINLEY | Luxury Gifts & Accessories | Jewellery Boxes & Watch Boxes | Luxury Gifts & Homeware, Furniture, Interior Design, Bespoke
There’s a lovely AMA jewellery box there for just $25,000. A bargain......

If you like something particularly complex see KHAMAMA Bespoke Boxes These guys use the wings from farmed butterflies to create the designs on their box tops. Beautiful but a bit tacky in my view.

Little Halstock make some extraordinary architectural boxes in the Art Deco style:

    Keep well,

    Brian
