I finally got this 45 degree miter cutting down to a fine science. I built a coping sled and used a miter gauge track to guide it along my router table. Once the cutter height and depth are set I lock the box end/side in the coping sled tight against my fence and cut away. Pure perfection every time. I then lay each piece end to end, tape them together, add glue, roll together and clamp.

Nice sled, KenBee, thanks for posting. How do you make the opposing box sides the exact same length?
regards,

Thanks Jill...I usually stack cut the ends and sides. I don't have a band saw or table saw so I have to build my box top and bottom separate. I also found that I can usually get them exact by running them through the router more than once. I check them by laying them back to back until they match. I am not one to lock in an exact measurement for my box projects so if I want a box that is something like 8 inches x 5 inches I could care less what the final measurement ends up being as long as it is square. In fact I don't strive to be a perfectionist with my woodworking projects because I spent over 25 years working in aircraft sheet metal and quality control where I had to be a perfectionist, so now I can make a mistake and not have to worry that I am putting peoples lives in danger.

Thankyou all for your generous advice. I definately will go with the band clamps as $ are at a premium at present. I like Dereks jig and will have a go at it. Jim frame and panel lids are the bane of my box making experience to date. I have recently used a oversized panel and frame, glued it to the base and trimmed to size. That seemed to work OK, but learn't not to trim on tablesaw though too close. Cut into the side of the box.
