    Default Boxmakers exchange - WIP

Hopefully, the pic of the wood sent by Shedhand will attach. If so, I'll post more WIP pics. If not, I'll go back to beating my head against the wall.

OK, now it seems to have worked.
Pics 1 & 2 show the wood - ti-tree. It's very heavy & hard, with a pronounced straight grain & a pretty interesting end grain. I decided to do a very squarish pen box.

Pic 3 - Cut the carcass to length and sawed 45 deg bevels on the top & bottom. Ripped the 3rd piece at 45 to make the back & front.

Pic 4 - I'll be using 5mm barrel hinges & it's easier to drill for them before I cut the other bevel on the back.

Pic 5 - All glued up.

Rumour has it that at least one participant has finished the box. When is he going to come out of the closet?

Pic 1 - separate the box using a ryoba
Pic 2 - cut the bevels on the back & carve the fingerhole on the front.
Pic 3 - drill to take dowels (kebab sticks) to join carcass & ends.

Carry are you referring to the Urn which Don Nethercott has featured in the Woodturning General thread? I would give you the link if I could work out how:confused: .

I'd love some if ya could. I grew up in Tea Tree Gully in Adelaide and would love to make something for my Mum as a keep sake.

Only a small amount like you sent to AlexS. More than happy to pay all costs.

    Cheers

Leptospermum grandiflorum AKA Mountain Tea Tree. It was harvested in the Huon Valley south of Hobart.
