Default Where to get brass handles for boxes

I am making a long narrow box 500 L x 200 W, with a lid, for my sister who wants it for her knitting needles - she is big time into the knitting scene, recently did a tour with a bus load of other kindred souls to all the wool stores and mills in NSW and Vic, buying up big time. Apparently it was knitting heaven, that trip. Some of her "needles" are 400mm long, she tells me. More like sticks if you ask me

I would like to get some nice polished brass handles that I could put on the narrow ends so she can carry it, preferably recessed into the ends of the box.

I have looked at the ones supplies by Rockler, but they didn't get a good review, falling apart easily.

Can anyone please suggest where I might get some, or suggest a suitable alternative handle?
    regards,

    Dengy

Try Graeme Brown Antiques, Melbourne, or Boxmakers Brassware, Dungog.

Dengue, you keep asking for places to buy box hardware. Have you tried any of the places recommended? Try here for handles like those on the Embroidery work box shown below. This box is 500 mm x 300 mm x 280 mm approx. It has one large tray. If you make the tray go length ways, her needles would fit easily and she gets a storage box for her knitting as well!

    Regards,

Thanks for the listing, Rob, much appreciated, and for your previous help.

Have tried the previously recommended places, but the products I was looking for were either not available, not suited to my design ( eg too antique looking or not the right finish) or just too expensive.

You have a huge advantage in that you live where the shops are located, and can go and see what you want, and suss out other options

PS I like the box you showed us, it is exactly the design I was going to use, but with long trays with a central full length divider. She must have lots of knitting needles

Hey Rob, is this the one you selected for your embroidery box? If so, do you know the overall height as measured from the top of the screw plate to the bottom of the handle please?

Yes, that would be the one. Normally I would buy the 90mm one, but I bought all of them and now use the 130mm. They still look great and do not look out of place on a large box, such as you are making.
They are both on page 21 of the cattle dog.
You should expect to pay around $25-28 for a pair (plus postage.) If you ring to order, Stuart is the guy you'll speak to. He was expecting a large shipment of brass stuff from the UK when I was down there last week, so he may have the 90mm back in stock. I also buy my quadrant hinges there. Great quality and not overly expensive (can't remember the price but I think about the same as the handles.) Both handles and hinges really make a difference to the project.

    Regards,

    Rob
