Burdekin Plum
I made this simple box just as a trial to see how the Burdekin Plum machines and sands and acts. Its ok through the thicky and its good with chisels and on the router bench and it sands well. The tight grain makes it ideal for making hinges and little fiddly bits. I didn't try to fill any cracks or holes or cut around gnarly pieces on purpose, just wanted the raw look. Finished with a few coats of hard burnishing oil.

Interesting hinge design. Does the lid stay in the open position by friction, or some other way?

I like the finger noches on the sides. That timber has a nice colour. Brave of you to include the knots and it has paid off combined with the unusual hinges. The whole box has character.

You have included some nice different features into this box. I think it is always good to see others trying something original and different.
I like the side lifts you have created and I am a fan of wooden hinges and here you have made something quite different. The Burdekin Plum looks great. And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Double.d,
Great box! Rugged but quirky at the same time. Everything just seems to work.
Wish it were mine!
