Default Business Card Box - Qld Maple

    Hello all,
I had to produce a prototype for a Corporate Gift Business Card Box on the weekend. (potentially 100 required)

Tried something a little different with 10 degree slope on all sides. 105mm x 40mm x 65mm at the base, in 7mm Qld Maple with Red Malle Burl top and bottom. Wooden hinge and angled cut off lid.

    regards
    Billy

That is a really nice box. I love it!
Would you mind explaining how you do the thin keys? What do you use to cut the slots? How thick are they? Ect. I have been trying them lately and would like some insight as to how others do them. Thanks.

    Hi Gecko,
After much experimentation, Japanese saw too thin, Router Slot Cutter too large, Flat Topped Saw too large I have settled on a Slitting Saw (from Ebay) mounted on a Bench Drill for these fine keys.

A simple jig will control the work piece from jumping out of your hands. The cut is just under 1mm and I use Marquetry veneers as the key material, works a treat!

    regards

    Thanks Clint,
The majority on my desk, 60 or more, are 90mm x 55mm.

Beautiful job. Looks great and I, too, like the wooden hinge, in fact you've motivated me to try one on a magnifying glass case I'm making soon.
Just bought some Queensland Maple, too, for my next project. Looking at your finished work, I'm glad I did.
Well done. As mentioned, you should have no trouble getting the commission, (dependent on price, of course).
