    Default Cedar box

Was recently given some old red cedar to play with. There wasn't very much of it so I thought because it was nice dark cedar a jewellery box would be suitable use for the timber. Nice old dark cedar is getting hard to come by.

The motifs on both sides of the top were hand made. The small tray was made from some silver ash. All the joints in the tray are mitred and glued. The inlay on the top is American maple burl.

Feel free to make any comments and/or criticisms.

I do have one small criticism though - how about you stick to segmented turning and leave us somewhere we won't be shown up by your superior skills!!!

Lovely work, Jim. Good score with the cedar, too, it has a nice figure, and as you say, dark examples are hard to come by now.

Thank you for sharing you're beautiful box with us I must say you have done a fantastic job on it. Is the banding around the edge of the top solid does it go right through the lid or have you done it in veneer on both inside and out. The maple burl is exquisite in the top panel.
    Regards Rod.

Thanks for the compliment Rod. The banding is a veneer banding, fitted to both sides of the top interdependently.
