    Default Personalising some boxes

I am just starting to make 3 document boxes for my neighbours 3 children and thought it would be nice to personalise them with their initials.
I am looking for a way to carry this out without investing in any more tools. OK maybe some simple tools.
One thought was to rout out the letters and then somehow highlight with a fill or finish.
My only router is a Triton one in a router table so I would perhaps need to get something smaller, like a laminate trimmer.
Is there a place I can get letter templates?

    Hi Clinto,
I make a few boxes and 21st keys. I take them to a sign writer who cuts the letters etc. from a self adhesive plastic gold sheet. I then lacquer over them. I reckon this is cheaper than going down the letter template track. You can choose a print style or colour to suit the project, or maybe even a motif or special design.

I have been trawling the internet since posting and found the Milescraft pantograph sold by Timbecon
It looks really interesting. It appears you can design your own pattern by hand or computer and just trace it

Hi clint0, one of these will cut out the inlay, remove the spacer on it and it will cut out the insert to an exact fit, you would of course have to make a template of the appropriate size of the name first.

Have a look at Laser printing, I had some done at the local engraver, looked really good on timber.

Have you thought of taking the lid (or another prominant part) to an engaver and getting them to engrave what you need.
IMO router carved letters are for BIG signs, not personalised boxes

another alternative is to inlay each box with a different species

I've used laser engraving like this a few times. I get it done by Kopycut at Thornleigh.
