Cherry w/ Birdseye maple
This is a box my wife wanted me to make for her school auction. It is Cherry w/ Birdseye Maple top panel, base and keys. It measures 8x5x3.5" tall. It is lined with synthetic suede and is finished with Watco natural oil and canuba wax. It the second one of this style I have made and is the latest of my works.

Yes. This is the first one I did with the padding. BTW, I used synthetic suede as it I read somewhere that real suede will tarnish silver.

Another nice box. I heard that too about the suede thing. I usually buy synthetic suede at a fabric store. I went hog wild and bought 4 or 5 colors as well as a lot in dress makers velvet. I buy these foam pads from Wally World at the craft section and place under the suede. That gives me a nice little cushion, although I'd like to try something just a tad more spongy. If you know of a good source, please let me know.
At times I also place leather on the underside of the box. My bottoms are usually 3/32 from the edge of the side on the btm, so when I put the leather on, it leaves a very nice 1/32 inch reveal.
ICN,
Bill

Nice box Gecko, and a really like the timber combination.
Cherry is rarer than hen's teeth here - but we do have some REALLY nice timbers. The only minor problem is that most of them are jolly near tool-steel in hardness
