Default Cherry w/ Spalted Maple crotch wood

This box is made from Cherry with a spalted Maple crotch wood top and bottom trim/feet. The keys in the miters are Cherry. The dimensions are 8.5"x5"x3.25" in overall height. It is finished with a few coats of drying oil, and buffed with a coat of Canuba wax. Hinges are made by Brusso and are self stopping at 95*. The liner is a synthetic suede and will not tarnish silver.

Nice one Gecko. The cherry & the burl go well together and the box is a nice design.
I'm just using cherry for the 1st time & finding it great to work with.

    Wow.

I'd never have considered cherry and maple as "matching" woods, but if you hadn't told us otherwise I'd have thought the box was made from different parts of the same tree! I also like the rebate on the front for opening.

    Very, very nice.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

    Very impressive.

I was wondering if you hand mortise in the hinges or do it with a jig? Is there any info on installing hinges anywhere handy.

    I am new at this.

    Thanks

Beautiful work there Gecko! I like the dimensions on this box and the lid panel style that you used.
