Well done. I save the dust in little jars to use, if needed. Then mix with 5-minute epoxy (sets faster, more accurate colour).

Thanks for the tip, I’ll remember it. Does it sand easily?

Wait for it to 3/4 cure, and then slice away most. When fully cured, use a chisel or block plane.

Good to see your persistence with this Jacques and thinking outside the square rather than giving up and starting again. It's amazing what we can come up with when we don't like the alternative.

Todays progress. I fitted the lid using brass pins recessed into the sides. I don’t like these hinges since the only way to fix it if anything goes wrong is to drill out the brass pin but I guess it will hold up.

I decided to recess the pins and fill the holes.

I rounded over the back to allow the lid to open.

It’s done for now, I might be able to continue working on it next weekend.

Oh yes, I also added some feet and planed the left one down a bit to get that final bit to level up the box properly.

I'm sure those chisels will be proud to live in their new home. Your persistence has paid off.
Are they little magnets in the front wall? If so, what dia are they?

Hi Dallas, they are little 3mmx3mm magnets to keep the lid closed. They are too weak though and I ordered some 5mm ones to replace them with. I also plan to use the 5mm ones to keep the chisels in place once I’ve made the inner parts of the box.

I thought they may have been that size as I have just used some on a smaller, lighter box and found the same thing, that they were too weak. Fortunately mine don't have to perform critical task in keeping the lid closed so they are going to stay there.

Yep, it was a job to dig the little buggers out. Fortunately I didn’t glue them in [emoji3]

I finally got around to do a little more on the box and finish it.

I wanted to put some magnets under the holders to keep the chisels in place while seated and had to play around with some different sizes. I eventually settled on 15*5mm magnets as they seem to have sufficient holding power to hold the chisel in place. I had to go quite big since the magnets are inserted from the bottom of the holders. You can see in the photos where the Forster tip just broke through the timber leaving about 2mm timber between the magnet and the chisel.

With that done all that remained was some stays on the lid, bigger magnets on the lid and finish. I finished the box with Osmo Polyx Satin followed by some wax. Here are a few photos of the finished box. Hope you enjoy.

    Cheers
    Jacques

That chisel box has come up beautifully and some great pix to show the journey. I like the magnets being under the wood. It will resist them coming loose from the recess and attaching themselves to the chisels, which is what can happen if they are in direct contact with the blades.
