    Default Need Help with Price

    Hello Everybody

My name is Gene and I just joined this forum. I found it a couple of weeks ago and have throrughly enjoyed reading your posts and looking at your beautiful boxes.

I'm from the USA and hope you don't hold that against me.

Many of you use the Gifkin jig. I emailed Mr. Gifkin and he sent me the prices of his newest jig and accessories. He sent the prices in Australian. Can anybody help me interpolate this into US dollars? Boy do I feel dumb now.

Cost of the jig was $272...shipping was $80..this I think as I mentioned was in Austrailian dollars.

I appreciate your help. Christmas is just around the corner and I think the jig could make it here by then.

Hope to meet all of you.

    Gene

Hi Gene (somebody had to say it, may as well be me

    Welcome to the forums.

I think the US dollar is about 75C Aus.

So just work out 75% of the Australian dollar cost and that's the US dollar equivalent. (Would only be a couple of dollars out, if that)

    i.e $352 Aud = $264 US (approx)
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

    Gene,
Welcome, around $272.44 US, all up. This web site is good for currency conversion.

    cheers

    Hi Gene

Welcome aboard - I hope youu enjoy your time here. It will probably take you a little bit of time to get to understand the Aussie sense of humour - you need a thick skin There are a lot of interesting and very knowledgeable characters here.

There is a USA agent mentioned on Gifkins web site: http://www.gifkins.com.au/USAgent.html

    which lists the products here:
    http://japanwoodworker.com/search.asp

It might be easier to deal with them.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome.

I did know about Japan Woodworker here in the states but they are not carrying the new improved jig yet. I like the idea of the aluminum instead of the wood frame.

I've only made a couple of boxes and I'll try to find pics of them and post although they are nothing compared to the works you guys and ladies turn out. But we have to start somewhere.

    Thanks again for the welcome.

    Welcome mlsa.

Google has a currency convertor built in to their search engine:

    http://www.google.com/help/features.html#currency

You can combine it with Google's calculate function to add 272 to 80 and convert the sum to USD. Type:

    "(272+80) australian dollars in usd"

    into Google to get:

    (272 + 80) * Australian dollars = 272.0256 U.S. dollars

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.
