Default A couple of Document Boxes

    Hello all,
Finished these two boxes this morning. One (Flame) for Dad's 80th and the other for his mate's 80th.

Dimensions 425mm x 225mm x 110mm x 10mm thick. The first is Qld Maple (from Mapleman) and Mrytle Burl lid. The second Flame Blue Gum with Red gum Burl lid. Each have a lift out tray and are lined with Pig Skin. Finished with Danish oil.

They also feature wooden hinges with brass pins.

Billy, they are superb. Some beautiful wood and stunning result.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

    Hi Starr,
Nothing too clever about it, glued to ply!

They really are beautiful and also aspirational
Is the centre panel fixed or floating in the lid?

    Hi ClintO,
The pieces are floating, routed side inserted into the routed 'picture frame'.

I like the pigskin. Nice touch for men's boxes.
    Love those feet, too.
Goes without saying, the rest looks great too. Beautiful timber.

Absolutely beautiful in kindness, design, timber and workmanship! Do the centre bigger splines create a shelf to support the drawer? Just love them,

Thanks fletty, yes the bigger spline protrudes 5mm inside the box to support the tray.
