Default Curly maple and purple heart jewelry box with marquetry work

    Hi, all,

This is my first box this year. I used hard curly maple plus purple heart as the miter key.

    Size: 8"x6"x2.5"
Material: Curly maple, purple heart, veneer, lacewood (for the tray inside the box)
Labor cost: more than 30 hours of hard work
Finish: Mineral oil and a very thin coat of varnish, sanded with 1500 grit paper

The marquetry is from F.H.Varley's (Group of Seven) original painting Stormy Weather

Here are the pictures, the last one is my box family, everything I made in the last 3 years:

Your latest is another beauty - well suited to joining the rest of your splendid family of boxes. When you say 30 hours of hard work, does that include the marquetry which looks like 30 hours in its own right?

Just outstanding. I would believe you if you said 100 hours of work.
It is really good of you to post the group shot of the family of box's. I particularly like the simplicity of the lone bird flying on the small front box. It looks like the bird is at height with ocean below. Lovely metaphor for freedom.

Stunning. Beautiful marquetry and the finish you get on your curly maple is nothing short of amazing.

The curly maple looks great, as does your work. Beautiful!
