Displaying rock collection
I have a collection of stones and rocks that I want to display either on the wall or under glass. The rocks and stones have been picked up all over the place: a fossil clover leaf, a greenstone axe head, a dinosaur rib, a bit of molten slag from Nazi HQ Berlin (how hot was that?), a piece of roman tile from a field in the UK near the village where my ancestors lived, a rock from a paddock where I grew up, a tektite from a gravel pit in Balladonia from 1967, a flattened lead bullet from an old goldfield. The pieces vary in size, of course, up to about 3" -75mm-cubed. Most of the pieces are a beige colour or black or dark brown. I will add to the collection. I wonder what the forum members suggest I do, what sort of timber would display these pieces best? Kevin Brewer

A nice effect is to make a coffee tabe or corner table with a glass top and the rocks sitting in a smaller chamber underneath. Best to put green felt lining in the chamber for contrast with the specimens, and you'll have nice timber of your choice for the remainder of the table. (I have something similar I bought once, must get round to making one myself out of myrtle some time, as I also have a few specimens as well...)
