An excellent box, very well made. My only comment would be to line it with red cedar. Silver fish and cockroaches will not go into a red cedar box or drawer and nibble on paper.
    nice box.

That's beautiful! Your customer is sure to love it. The mitres look perfect and the inlay as well. Any chance of some close-ups? It's very stately looking.

Very nice work nine fingers. It looks like the box has a solid lid with mitered frame, did u do anything to allow for wood movement or are u just hoping there'll be none?

Hi Rattrap, The blackwood came from a cabinet maker who had sold his business ,but not the stock . It is air dried, been sitting in a shed in Geelong for about 15 years so it should well climatised to this area.

    Default Ebony inlay

The top looks like a frame and panel with mitered frames. Is the ebony inlayed in the frame or is it more like a binding on the panel?

What is the other wood on the inlay? It looks like you laminated some different wood to both sides of the ebony and sliced off strips for the inlays. Is my assumption correct?

I rebated the frame sections and then glued in the strips. the white timber is Satin Box 1.5x5mm,the African Blackwood is 5x5mm, used super glue on the AB as PVA wouldn't look at it.

It is now for sale privately as the client ( a French lady ) expected Australian Blackwood to be very dark . She was completely happy with the box except the golden colour of the blackwood.
Will put it in the Queenscliff wood show this week end to see if I can get some nibbles.
    here hoping nine fingers.
