NSW Leather got back to me this morning re the pigskin splits.
They don't have them organised for online purchases yet, that's why I couldn't find them.: -
Noted you require pigskin splits suitable for lining jewellery boxes and we can certainly help you with this. J
The price of our pig skin lining is $1.05 per sq ft + GST and the hides come in a size of approximately 6 sq ft in area.
We have beige which we assume you would use but we can also cater to other colours as well.
** We don’t have a shopping, add to cart & checkout etc. on line as yet but you can certainly email us and we can organise an order via email if this better suits you or we can communicate over the phone.
We look forward to your reply so we can assist you further.
... Steve

The poly still hasn't arrived to finish this. I think it's lost in the mail.
Globak posted it from Preston on the 21st, 7 days ago. According to AusPost Tracking, it is still at Preston BC. Have to chase it up on Monday. Meantime, I can't do anything. Bloody nuisance.... Steve

I wouldn't be suprised if they took their time to post it plus you need to consider Anzac Day, probably will turn up monday. Also you could flock the inside? I'm actually looking into that at the moment for a box I'm making.

Post office records show that it was lodged on the 21st, then there are no more entries. Still, I'm hoping it'll arrive on Monday, as you say.
I've purposely avoided flock to date, but might have to look into it as a felt replacement. For ths box, I'm not overly concerned, but need something for my future boxes. When I get a chance I'll do a good search for real felt and velvet. It'd be nice to find kangaroo suede splits, too.... Steve

Back in business on this one as of tonight.
I just finished fitting the lid stay chains and am prepping it for the first finish coat.
I'll post some 'finished' pics in a couple of days.... Steve

TTTtthat's All Folks
Got it all finished overnight, (another late one).
It looks OK. Could have been better, but could have been a lot worse too.
Most importantly, I learned a lot, so the next one should be better.
Onward and upward........ Steve

Thanks, John. There are some things I'd change if I did it again, but overall it did turn out fairly well.
The thread was a little more long-winded than I intended. I'm like a kid with a new toy. Love this stuff.
Got two others on the go at the moment - now I can get stuck into those.
Edit: This box is off to my 'adopted' parents. (An elderly couple in their 80's who've helped me out far more than I've deserved over the years.)... Steve

Hi,
Really nice. I do not think there is a wood worker who wouldn't make the next one different. Ask jow104 how many tissue boxes he has made and the next one will still be different.

I decided to add a simple bottom lining to this box before sending it off.
2mm basswood ply, covered with felt, but not glued in to make it easier for cleaning, waxing etc.... Steve

That is quite a contrast with the blue in the bottom.
